SUBJECT CATEGORIES

Acro/Gymnastics: Tumbling and passes, incorporated with dance technique and choreography.

Ballet: Consisting of ballet technique, including classical steps and movements.

Character: Portraying an easily recognizable character.

Contemporary: Routine consisting of movements with classical foundation of contemporary technique.

Hip Hop: Dance movements of street, funk and or break dance.

Jazz: Classical jazz technique and movements.

Lyrical: The use of balance, flexibility, control and fluidity, interpreting/feeling lyrics of song.

Modern: Interpretive dance, using modern contemporary style, incorporated with balance, control and extension movements.

Musical Theater: Use of Broadway or movie musical song, portraying lyrics thru dance or character.

Open: Combines 2 or more subjects, or is not defined in any one subject.

Pointe: Pointe shoes must be worn, pointe technique but not limited to classical steps and movements.

Song & Dance: Routine with 50% Vocal, 50% Dance. No lip-syncing allowed.

​Tap: Demonstrating tap techniques. No pre-recorded tap sounds allowed in music.

​There is no Acro allowed in Ballet or Pointe. A maximum of 3 Acro Tricks is allowed in Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical and Tap.  All other Subjects may include unlimited Tricks.
